This letter was a bit of a challenge, but I accept! The induction cut was originally given to new military recruits as a way of preventing the spread of head lice. It also serves a psychological purpose in stripping recruits of their individuality. It can be a bit of a shocker, as the cut happens within minutes or hours of arrival at boot camp. But once completed, the whole platoon joins together in solidarity for becoming apart of the armed forces. - info sited on wikipedia
